Oman and China have called for a peaceful resolution and full ceasefire between the United States and Iran during talks in Beijing between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tariq. The joint statement issued after the meetings emphasized the need for safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz and urged both nations to resume dialogue to reach a comprehensive agreement, including the nuclear issue.
The two leaders discussed regional stability and security, with a focus on the Middle East. They highlighted the importance of restoring normal trade and economic cooperation, as well as the need for diplomatic engagement to prevent further escalation. The visit marks the first state-level visit by an Omani sultan to China, underscoring the growing strategic partnership between the two nations.
Oman and China have also signed several investment agreements during the visit, including partnerships in renewable energy, mining, logistics, and technology. These agreements include the establishment of joint funds, development of solar energy facilities, and the launch of a space satellite program. The economic ties between the two countries have been strengthening in recent years, with both nations seeking to expand trade and investment opportunities.
The call for a US-Iran ceasefire comes amid heightened tensions in the region, particularly concerning the Strait of Hormuz, a critical shipping route. The joint statement by Oman and China reflects their shared interest in maintaining stability and ensuring the free flow of global trade. The visit also highlights the expanding influence of China in the Middle East, as it continues to deepen its economic and strategic relationships with regional partners.
