More than a year after the 2025 monsoon floods devastated Pakistan’s Buner district, survivors are rebuilding their lives. Omar Khan, one of the few survivors from his family, now lives in a new house built away from the one destroyed by the floods. Buner was the hardest-hit area, with the national disaster authority reporting 24 deaths in his family alone. The provincial disaster authority confirmed 256 fatalities in the district. Despite efforts to rebuild, the threat of another flood remains. On August 15, over 150 millimeters of rain fell, raising concerns about future flooding. Many families continue to live in fear, unsure if they will be safe again. The government has pledged support, but rebuilding efforts face challenges. As the monsoon season approaches, the community remains on edge, hoping for better weather and stronger defenses.
