Saudi Arabia intercepted new Houthi missile attacks on Tuesday, as the conflict in Yemen continues to escalate. The country’s main international airport in Riyadh remains closed following the strikes. The Saudi Foreign Ministry reported that UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed condemned Houthi attacks on the King Khaled International Airport during a phone call with Saudi counterpart Prince Faisal bin Farhan.
The Houthi group has launched repeated attacks on Saudi territory, prompting increased military responses. The US has been urged by Saudi officials to assist in dealing with the group. A Houthi official warned the US it would face a “painful response” if it entered the war in Yemen. Meanwhile, US citizens have been detained for filming the attacks, with the US embassy advising against such activity due to legal risks.
Residents in Taiz, Yemen, described fleeing as Houthi forces advanced, with some stating they “already feel dead.” The conflict, which involves a Saudi-led coalition supporting the Yemeni government against Iran-backed Houthis, has reignited in July. The war has disrupted energy markets and intensified regional tensions.
The ongoing violence has led to heightened security measures in Saudi Arabia, including airport closures and restrictions on foreign journalists. The situation remains volatile, with both sides continuing to exchange attacks. The international community has expressed concern over the humanitarian impact of the conflict.
