Yemeni government forces have launched a major offensive to retake territory seized by Houthi rebels, according to military sources. The operation, part of a broader campaign to regain control of strategic areas, has seen government forces recapture the Dhubab district near the Bab al-Mandeb Strait. This area is critical for maritime security and trade routes.
Coalition forces, supporting the Yemeni government, reported that 100 fighter jets participated in the operation, targeting 324 high-value sites. The strikes were part of “Operation Dawn of Yemen,” aimed at disrupting Houthi military capabilities. Coalition spokesperson Maj. Gen. Turki Al-Maliki confirmed that air support continues to secure the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, a vital chokepoint in the Red Sea.
The offensive follows a series of clashes in the region, with Houthi rebels previously seizing control of Dhubab. Government forces have been intensifying efforts to reclaim the area, which has become a focal point in the ongoing conflict. The operation marks a significant escalation in the military campaign against Houthi positions.
The conflict in Yemen has been ongoing since 2015, with Houthi rebels and their allies fighting against government forces backed by a coalition led by Saudi Arabia. The Bab al-Mandeb Strait remains a strategic asset, with both sides vying for control over maritime routes and supply lines. The recent offensive underscores the continued intensity of the conflict and the strategic importance of the region.
