The Saudi-led coalition to restore legitimacy in Yemen confirmed a Houthi attack on a power distribution station in Madinah. The incident occurred on Tuesday morning, according to the coalition’s official spokesperson, Major General Turki Al-Maliki. The attack targeted the Taiba power distribution station.
Al-Maliki stated that an investigation and operational review confirmed the involvement of Houthi militia in planning and executing the attack. Debris from a drone used in the attack was recovered as evidence. The attack caused temporary disruption to power supply in the area.
The coalition reiterated that the Houthi group is responsible for the attack, which it described as a “cowardly terrorist act.” The incident follows a series of clashes between Houthi forces and government troops in Taiz. The Houthi rebels, backed by Iran, have been engaged in an ongoing conflict with the internationally recognized Yemeni government.
The attack has drawn condemnation from regional allies. Pakistan expressed its disapproval of the Houthi strike on Madinah’s Tayyibah power station, reaffirming its solidarity with Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, the U.S. Has increased its military presence in the Middle East, deploying the Roosevelt strike group and 2,000 Marines as part of a broader strategy to counter Iranian influence.
The FBI has also arrested an Energy Department employee on charges of supporting Houthi rebels in Yemen. The individual is accused of purchasing materials for homemade explosives and drones and traveling to Yemen. This case highlights the growing concern over foreign support for Houthi activities.
The conflict in Yemen has intensified in recent months, with Houthi attacks on infrastructure and military installations becoming more frequent. The ongoing violence has led to significant humanitarian challenges, with civilians bearing the brunt of the fighting.
