A terrorist attack at a church in Jordan’s Karak Governorate killed at least seven people and injured more than 40, according to local authorities. The incident occurred on Friday during a funeral service in Hammoud village. Security camera footage captured the attack, which targeted mourners.
The Jordanian government identified the perpetrators as “unknown assailants.” King Abdullah II vowed that those responsible would face “the harshest penalties.” Pakistan’s foreign affairs ministry condemned the attack as “terrorist,” expressing grief over the loss of life.
This is the second such attack in Jordan this year. In March, a similar incident occurred in the capital, Amman, where a bombing killed 21 people. The Jordanian security forces have increased surveillance in religious sites following these incidents. The attack has raised concerns about the safety of religious gatherings in the region.
Jordan has faced sporadic attacks by extremist groups in recent years. The government has implemented stricter security measures, particularly in areas with significant religious or cultural sites. The current attack has intensified calls for international cooperation in combating terrorism.
