Saudi Arabia’s coalition fighting the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels reported intercepting and destroying a cruise missile over the holy city of Medina. The attack occurred in the Medina region, according to a spokesperson for the Saudi-led military coalition. Separately, the coalition also thwarted another missile strike in the eastern part of the kingdom.
The Houthi group has intensified attacks on Saudi infrastructure, including airports and energy facilities. In October alone, the King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh was targeted 20 times. These attacks have prompted increased security measures and coordination between regional allies.
The Saudi-led coalition has been engaged in a military campaign against the Houthi rebels in Yemen since 2015. The rebels, backed by Iran, have launched numerous attacks on Saudi territory, often using ballistic missiles and drones. Recent operations have focused on intercepting these projectiles and disrupting Houthi supply lines.
The ongoing conflict in Yemen has resulted in significant humanitarian crises, with millions of civilians affected by the war. The Saudi-led coalition has faced criticism for its military actions, while the Houthi rebels have accused Saudi forces of targeting civilian areas.
The recent missile attacks highlight the continued escalation of hostilities between the two sides. As the conflict persists, regional tensions remain high, with both parties vying for strategic and political advantage.
