Saudi Arabia's air defenses intercepted and destroyed three ballistic missiles and four drones targeting the country on Tuesday, according to the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen. The intercepted weapons were aimed at the Eastern Province, a key region in the kingdom. Maj. Gen. Turki Al-Maliki, the coalition’s spokesperson, confirmed the defense system neutralized the threats.
In southern Saudi Arabia, air defenses also shot down four drones launched by the Houthi group. The Saudi Civil Defense issued warnings to residents in the area, advising them to remain alert. The attacks come as tensions in the Middle East remain high, with ongoing conflict in Yemen and regional diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the situation.
The Houthi group, backed by Iran, has intensified attacks on Saudi territory in recent weeks. Yemen’s military reported 1,276 operations conducted by its forces in the past 24 hours, indicating a significant escalation in the conflict. Egypt has also pledged military support to Saudi Arabia, authorizing President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to take all necessary measures to defend the kingdom.
The intercepted attacks highlight the continued threat posed by the Houthi movement, which has been engaged in a protracted conflict with Saudi Arabia and its allies. Diplomatic talks between regional leaders, including Iran’s security chief and Saudi Arabia, have been ongoing in an effort to reduce hostilities. However, the recent attacks underscore the challenges in achieving lasting peace in the region.
