Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman is in Tehran for meetings with Iranian officials as part of efforts to ease regional tensions. The visit comes amid ongoing conflicts in the region, including fighting in Yemen. A Saudi Foreign Ministry official confirmed the delegation’s presence in Tehran, emphasizing the goal of reducing tensions between Saudi Arabia and Iran.

The delegation includes representatives from countries party to the Makkah Agreement, a framework aimed at fostering cooperation between Saudi Arabia and its neighbors. The talks follow recent developments, including a missile interception by the Saudi-led military coalition. On Monday, the coalition reported intercepting a ballistic missile fired by Yemen’s Houthis, an Iran-backed group. The Houthis claimed responsibility for a new attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh.

The attack occurred a day after explosions shook the Saudi capital, prompting authorities to issue warnings about a “hostile aerial threat.” The Houthis have launched multiple attacks on the airport, including one this month. The ongoing conflict in Yemen, supported by Iran, has heightened regional tensions, prompting diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the situation.

The Makkah Agreement, signed in 2020, seeks to improve relations between Saudi Arabia and its neighbors, including Iran. The current talks represent a continuation of diplomatic efforts to stabilize the region. The situation remains volatile, with military and political tensions continuing to shape the dynamics between key regional actors.
