Yemeni government forces have recaptured the Dhubab district near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait from Houthi rebels, according to Yemeni Information Minister Moammar al-Eryani. The operation, supported by Saudi air strikes, targeted key positions along the narrowest point of the strait.
The military operation followed a rapid advance by government forces along the coast. Field reports indicate that the Dhubab area, a critical point in the strait, was seized from Houthi control. The area is known for its strategic importance in regional trade and energy routes.
The operation is part of a broader military campaign launched by Yemeni government forces to reclaim territory lost to Houthi rebels. Earlier this month, the Houthis captured the Dhubab district, disrupting maritime traffic and sending shockwaves through energy markets.
The Yemeni Armed Forces spokesperson, Maj. Gen. Majed Abdullah Al-Nuzaili, confirmed that military operations continued across multiple fronts. His statement noted that 1,122 Houthi targets were struck in the Saada, Al-Jawf, and Taiz regions.
The Bab el-Mandeb Strait remains a focal point of the conflict. Control of the area has shifted between government forces and Houthi rebels multiple times. The latest gains by government forces are seen as a significant development in the ongoing struggle for dominance in the region.
