U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio denied any U.S. Government involvement in the departure of defeated presidential candidate Flávio Bolsonaro from Brazil. Rubio stated the Trump administration did not facilitate Bolsonaro’s flight to the United States following his election loss to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
Bolsonaro, a former presidential candidate, left Brazil after losing the election. He was reportedly in the country for a short period before departing. Trump, in a separate statement, said Bolsonaro could remain in the U.S. Indefinitely.
This comes amid ongoing political tensions in Brazil. Bolsonaro had previously been a strong contender in the election but was defeated by Lula da Silva. His departure has raised questions about his future plans and political activities. The U.S. Government has not commented further on the matter.
